Sweden superstar announced his long impending arrival on Instagram, putting an end to months of speculation. Alongside manager Jose Mourinho’s signing, Ibrahimovic’s move to Old Trafford was one of the worst kept secrets in world football. The 34-year-old made up his mind just days after his country, Sweden getting knocked out of Euro 2016 tepidly, finishing bottom of the group with only a solitary point to show at the end of it. Ibrahimovic decided to hang up his boots in International football too, deciding to concentrate more on club football.
Ibrahimovic bid adieu to Paris Saint-Germain, where plied his trade for five years, helping them win four league titles on the bounce and become the Parisian club’s greatest goalscorer in the process. Ibrahimovic’s poor record in Champions League football never improved though. United though, will not be playing in Europe’s premier competition after finishing fifth in the league table. For the Swede, this will be his eighth club in his chequered career, which has seen him win the league title with three different clubs in Italy, in Spain, and in the Netherlands. Overall, it may just make him one of the most expensive football players in terms of net transfers.
Ibrahimovic will soon be joined by Henrik Mkhitaryan, the Borussia Dortmund player who is on the verge of completing a move to the Theatre of Dreams. The move will be a free transfer, as Ibrahimovic is currently unattached to a club. On his Instagram account, Ibrahimovic put the speculations to bed after being coy for the last couple of months. He wrote, “(sic) Time to let the world know. My next destination is @manchesterunited #iamcoming”.
