England host South Africa and West Indies either side of Champions Trophy in revamped 2017 summer

England take on South Africa in three one-day internationals as their final build-up to hosting the ICC Champions Trophy as part of a packed 2017 summer schedule.

Eoin Morgan’s side will host Ireland twice in May, at Bristol and Lord’s, before 50-over games against the Proteas at the Headingley, Ageas Bowl and Lord’s ahead of the Trophy from June 1 to 18.

Two T20s against South Africa lead into a four-Test series at Lord’s, Trent Bridge, the Kia Oval and Old Trafford before the West Indies arrive for five-dayers at Edgbaston, Headingley and Lord’s, a T20 at Emirates Riverside and five ODIs.

Other changes to the summer schedule have been made in a bid for greater continuity between the game’s formats.

The ECB announced that while the NatWest T20 Blast Finals Day remains at Edgbaston in September, the Royal London One-Day Cup final has been moved from mid-September to July 1.

The bumper calendar also features the ICC Women’s World Cup from June 26 to July 23.

“With three different international teams coming here next summer and this country playing host to two major ICC global events… there will be a feast of international cricket to excite us in England and Wales,” ECB Chief Executive Officer Tom Harrison said.

“Both the international and the domestic schedule will have a different shape to previous years. And the early season block for the Royal London One-Day Cup – with a new mid-season date for its Lord’s final – will support both England’s ICC Champions Trophy preparations and our longer term planning for the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2019.

“It will also allow players to focus skills on the white ball game and help more people to understand the structure of the season.

“It promises to be a memorable summer of cricket for all our international grounds and a particularly special one for Somerset CCC which will host its first England men’s fixture for more than 30 years; a great opportunity for the county to further capitalise on its strong support for England women’s cricket in recent years.”
