Technology giant google announced on snapchat that the latest version of android operating system android N will now go with android nougat in New York on Thursday, 30 June 2016.
The Android Nougat name continues the custom of naming major Android releases after sweets. It all started with sweet names like Android 1.5 Cupcake, followed by Android 1.6 Donut, Android 2.0 Eclair, Android 2.2 Froyo, and Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The pattern continued with Android 3.0 Honeycomb, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, Android 4.4 KitKat, Android 5.0 Lollipop, and Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
The announcement of nougat comes after the company asked for suggestions saying that users could submit suggestions for the name online. Nougat is the latest dessert-themed version of Android due available later this summer.
The release, initially announced in March and currently on its second and mostly stable beta, brings New features like an improved announcement shade and split-screen multitasking to the mobile OS, while also improving on features like Snooze that came with Marshmallow last year, technology website.
The release also has Fantasy, Google’s new VR platform, baked in, though it will only be supported by Daydream-ready phones running the OS.
